World War I: Claude Choules, the last veteran

Claude Choules died at 110 years old. Born in 1901 in Pershore, Worcestershire. At 15 he enlisted in the Royal Navy and was stationed at HMS Revenge:

At 17, he participated in the largest naval battle of the First World War in the North Sea The Battle of Jutland


By 1918 it witnessed the surrender of the German Imperial Navy transferred to the British base of Scapa Flow.
In 1920 he moved to Australia where he continued his military career. During the Second World War as an expert explosives took part in the operation to clear an Australian port blocked for 15 flying boats sunk after a Japanese attack.

After the war he joined the Naval Dockyard Police until 1956 . From then on and for ten years operated a boat to catch crabs. Leaves 3 children and 11 grandchildren.
